To whom it may concern:
The Durand Neighbourhood Association would like to be recorded
as strongly objecting to the continuation of heavy truck
routes through the downtown core. Since Hamilton now has a
complete
freeway ring road network (QEW, 403, Linc, RHVP), together with access
to the industrial north end via Burlington Street, there is no longer
any reason to permit heavy trucks in the residential and commercial
core of the City.
In fact, the promotors of the Linc and RHVP in the business
community and City explicitly stated that these freeways would take
trucks off downtown streets. This must happen as soon as possible!
Besides
their noise, vibration (and the associated damage to the roads), it
should be obvious that it is extremely dangerous to mix heavy trucks
with cyclists and pedestrians on downtown streets. This mixture
has
lead to death and injury in the past, and to near disaster when a roll
of steel fell of a truck and smashed into
the Bank of Montreal building at Main and Bay.
Please keep heavy trucks off our downtown streets, and where they
belong: on the ring road freeways and Burlington St that were designed
for them.
Your sincerely,
Nicholas Kevlahan
