In the spring of 2011, Glyn Wide, Manager of Municipal Licensing Enforcement for the City of Hamilton, was invited to address the DNA board concerning property standards in the Durand Neighbourhood. It was becoming evident that there were increasing numbers of buildings that were not in compliance with Property Standards By-Laws. Mr Wide introduced us to “Project Compliance” which is a proactive investigative branch that employs six officers. The by-law blitz was so successful that the term of this project has been extended. The DNA requested a blitz and in March of 2011, officers identified 19 properties that were not in compliance and 8 vacant buildings. Subsequently property owners were given an order to comply. For those that did not, work was contracted out by the City and charges were put onto their tax bill. Most complied.
Property Standards is an ongoing issue and the DNA encourages you to be proactive. Please call 905-546-2782 or email: mle@hamilton.ca
