Introducing PlanLocal Ward 2 Beautiful Streets and Spaces
Residents of Ward 2 take pride in their neighbourhoods and have a desire to make the Ward an even more beautiful place to live, work and play. That’s why this year Councillor Jason Farr is dedicating approximately $1 million of infrastructure spending, divided equally between the 6 neighbourhoods, to making your streets and public spaces more beautiful. You know your neighbourhoods better than anyone so he’s asking for your help.
PlanLocal Ward 2 Beautiful Streets and Spaces encourages residents to help guide Ward 2 infrastructure spending through citizen supported decision-making. Participating is easy:
Identify locations that you want to beautify, such as major streets and City-owned green spaces, like parks and trails.
Propose physical infrastructure improvements for that location, such as trail and pathway repairs, greening of bump outs, graffiti prevention, and solar lighting.
The most popular locations identified by residents will be considered for funding.
The PlanLocal Ward 2 Beautiful Streets and Spaces process is your opportunity to make direct improvements to your neighbourhood. You can participate from May 23rd – June 28th, both online and at various locations throughout Ward 2.
One idea for beautification from the DNA is to look to our street signs. During PLanLocal in 2014, each neighbourhood received funding for street signage. The DNA opted to use these funds to brand, market and identify our beautiful historic Durand Neighbourhood (see images below). To date, both of our Heritage Conservation Districts have been signed with the new street signs and soon all of the streets on the interior of our neighbourhood’s boundaries will also be signed as well. However, there were insufficient funds to cover off Queen, Main and James South with new signage. BUT the good news is, street signs qualify as beautification projects in this year’s Plan Local!
Please consider voting for Historic Street Signs in this year’s Plan Local process as one of your suggestions.
