We hope you’ve enjoyed your long weekend. The weather held up nicely and the holiday’s heat was a real reminder that summer is around the corner; and with it, the 100 in 1 Day Hamilton – Festival of civic action. The Durand has many great events happening on June 6th.
Durand Park Clean-up – June 6th (9am to 12pm)
Every year, many Duranders support this very important clean-up that helps to improve our common spaces in the neighbourhood. Please meet us at Durand Park at 9am and help clean up the Park and surrounding areas. Gloves, garbage bags, and refreshments will be provided. All are welcome!
Durand Alleyway Tour and Heritage Walk – June 6th (12pm to 3pm)
Join us right after the clean up for a tour of Durand Alleyways and Heritage sites. This tour will draw attention to our alleyways as neighbourhood assets and greenspaces that are underutilized.
Durand in Pictures – June 6th (all day)
The Durand Neighbourhood Association is inviting all Duranders to share pictures of the buildings and homes around the Durand neighbourhood. We are celebrating the connections we have with our built heritage in Durand. You can email your photos to email@example.com.
100 in 1 Day – June 6th overview

Monday May 25th – Bike to Work Day
On Monday, May 25th, Smart Commute Hamilton, in partnership with SoBi Hamilton and New Hope Community Bikes, will be celebrating the 7th Annual Bike to Work and School Day at Gore Park from 7AM-9AM. Members of the community and students will be cycling from workplaces across the city and participating downtown areas schools to Gore Park to join us in celebrating this sustainable and healthy option for commuting.
The Bike to Work Day event at Gore Park will include musical entertainment on the VeloStage, the 2014 Community in Motion Award recipients, and free refreshments from Homegrown Hamilton and Coffeecology.
All participants who register at bikemonth.ca/biketoworkday will receive a free t-shirt and will be entered to win a Norco City Glide 3 commuter bike and $500 Via Rail Voucher. Those who ride a SoBi to the Gore Park event will get a free $10 riding credit.

Building the Bike Network: Herkimer and Charlton
There have been several previous articles written about the efforts of the Durand Neighbourhood Association’s to get a better design than City staff’s originally proposed unprotected bike lanes placed in the Door Zone of adjacent parked cars. In response to this proposal, the Durand Neighbourhood Association formed a Cycling Committee that recommended New York-style car parking-protected bike lanes. More Illegal Parking on Building Footprint at 20 Jackson Street West

Durand Car Break-ins
There have many reports of car break ins throughout Durand. We are reminding Duranders to remove any valuables from their cars or when not possible, to make sure no valuables are in view.
