Car Break Ins, Queen Street and Corrections!

CRIME UPDATE

As always, the DNA reminds Duranders to be mindful of car break ins, which this neighbourhood can be prone to.  Please review the following tips to ensure your vehicle is protected.

While break ins continue to be a problem, recent violent crime trends in Hamilton continue on a 10-year decline, as outlined in a Hamilton Police report entitled An Overview of Violence Prone Areas in Hamilton. While this is good news, the Dowtown is still the most violence prone area in the City and Hamilton has an above average violent crime rate.

Durand in the News: Garden tours and urban growth

The Grand Durand Garden Tour had a great feature in the Spec this week.  Be sure to check it out as there are some great “teaser” pictures as well.  For more teaser pictures you can see the CH Morning Live coverage on the GDGT. We are very pleased with all the media coverage thus far and encouage you all to spread the word, as there are a small amount of tickets still available.

Urban Growth on the cusp of the boom.  Can Hamilton find its Gugenheim? An interesting article in the Spectator from Chris Hume talking about what Hamilton needs to grow and comparing it to a Spanish city of similar stature. Given Durand’s recent issues with New Horizon Homes, this article is very topical, and also talks about the relationship between developers, the community and transit.

Ward 2 Participatory Budget – Submit an Idea!

Weekly Update from our friends at the Participatory Budget in Ward 2 for May 29, 2013

Make $1 million have an IMPACT!

Those of us who live in Hamilton see the good, the bad, and the ugly every day. $1 million per year, spent wisely, could enhance the good and transform the bad and ugly. When our ideas are based on problems such as social disconnect or unemployment we can imagine solutions like a friendlier park bench or a fab lab. When you think of ways to spend the budget, let your creativity and imagination take the lead. Our facilitators are there to help you transform your imagination into reality.

Come out this Wednesday night from 7:30-9pm at one of the following locations. We look forward to seeing you!

Bennetto Community Centre (450 Hughson Street North)
Hess Street School (107 Hess Street North)
Beasley Community Centre (145 Wilson Street)
Central Elementary School (75 Hunter Street)
Central Presbyterian Church (165 Charlton Avenue West)
Queen Victoria Elementary School (166 Forest Avenue)
Central Memorial Recreation Centre (93 West Avenue South)
